Jane Hayes is a Partner at Independent Audit Ltd (IAL), a specialist corporate governance consultancy. She is a Chartered Accountant and has spent 35 years working in and around the City of London. She qualified with KPMG before moving into City headhunting. In 1994 she joined BZW, Barclays’ investment banking arm (latterly UBS), where she became a key member of the top-ranked utilities team. She subsequently moved to Salomon Brothers (which became Salomon Smith Barney and then Citi) where she covered utilities and later food retail, marketing to institutional investors worldwide. Following a period undertaking freelance consulting work, she joined a niche consultancy specialising in supporting professional women returning to the workplace in more flexible roles. Jane joined IAL in 2014 and in her current role undertakes board reviews for a wide range of both listed and non-listed companies. Her clients include Burberry, Centrica, Johnson Matthey, Smiths Group plc, Spirax-Sarco, Tate & Lyle and The Royal Mint, plus a wide range of financial services organisations including Canada Life, Handelsbanken, Hargreaves Lansdown, St. James’s Place and Lancashire Holdings.
Jane has also conducted several external quality assessments of internal audits with clients including Aldermore, the Bank of England, Hargreaves Lansdown and Metro Bank.
